All About Me Wordle

  • Today you will be learning how to use an online word cloud program called Wordle!

  • First, open a Word Document.

  • Copy and paste the following prompts into your document, then answer them about yourself. The font and size of the text don't matter. If there's any prompts you don't want to answer, just skip them :).
    • Name:
    • Birthday:
    • City you live in:
    • Names of family members:
    • Names and types of pets:
    • Favorite Movie(s):
    • Favorite Music:
    • Favorite Color:
    • Favorite Book:
    • Favorite Animal:
    • Hair color:
    • Eye color:
    • What you do in your free time:
    • Five adjectives that describe you:
    • Things you do well:
    • Favorite place to go on vacation:
    • Accomplishments you are most proud of:
    • Favorite thing to do on a rainy day:
    • Favorite activities to do with your family:
    • Things that make you happy:
    • Future dreams/plans:
    • Favorite outdoor activity:
    • Anything else important about you:

  • Once you have answered all of the prompts, visit Wordle. Copy the text of your Word document, and paste it into the box on the Wordle page that says "Paste in a bunch of text." Next click "Go."

  • Now here's the cool part! The next screen will have a "picture" of the words from your Word document. There are many ways to customize how the words show up in the menu at the top of the "picture."
    • FONT: Changes the font of the text. Try a few different fonts until you find one you like.
    • LAYOUT: Changes the way the words are organized on the screen. You can pick whether they are up and down, side to side, or a little of both.
    • COLOR: Changes the colors of the words. There are several color options that have already been created, or you can select "Custom Palatte" to pick your own color combinations.

  • Play around until the words are formatted in a way you like. You can always undo any change you have made in the "Edit" menu.

  • Now we want to save your picture to your server space. This is a little tricky. Center your Wordle on your screen, then find and click the "PRT SC" button at the top of your keyboard (this means "Print Screen" and it will take a picture of whatever is on your screen).

  • Nothing should happen - that's OK! Open up the Paint program (which can be found in the Start menu under Accessories), go to the Edit menu, and click "Paste." Now your picture should show up!

  • You will now need to crop your picture so it only has the Wordle on it. Use the "select" tool (it is probably already highlighed) to outline your Wordle only, then go to the Edit menu and click "Copy." Next, go to the File menu and click "New." It will ask you to save your current picture, say NO. When a new Paint document is open, go to the Edit menu and click "Paste." There's your Wordle!

  • Now save your Wordle to your server space.

  • When you have done all this, click to visit Our Wordle page where you will be embedding your Wordle to share with your classmates!
